What You Need to Know
Ndoboa (pronounced Ndor-Boa) is a concept derived from a Ghanaian farming tradition. It means: “Help me with my farm, and I will help you clear yours, so that we all achieve a bumper harvest.”
We have adopted this concept with the sole aim of demonstrating love through helping. Ndoboa is a women’s development, empowerment, and sustainability project that targets single mothers in surrounding communities in Cape Coast, in the Central Region of Ghana.
Single mothers face many challenges while caring for their families. In Ghana, this situation is compounded by scarce resources and limited opportunities, especially for those who lack formal education. With few social services available, many become trapped in a cycle of poverty and, in extreme cases, prostitution—using sex to barter for food. Over time, many become disheartened and lose the strength to rise above their circumstances.
The concept of Ndoboa seeks to empower individuals not only to receive help, but also to help others. With a strong focus on teaching practical, income-generating skills for sustainability, our project founders developed a curriculum aimed at disrupting the cycle of poverty and exploitation. We train at-risk women and single mothers in life skills that will benefit them, their families, and their communities. Through this hands-on skills training, we hope to significantly reduce this social problem among single mothers.
The name Ndoboa was adopted because the participants we train are expected to also train other single mothers, thereby multiplying the impact of the project.
Short-Term Vision
To train single mothers in practical skills such as sewing, who will, in turn, train other single mothers in and around Cape Coast.
Our target is to train 50 participants within 5 years. If each trained participant trains at least one other person, we will be able to reach about 90 single mothers. This is how we seek to empower single mothers and expand the impact of the project.
Long-Term Vision
To build a comprehensive facility that can house and train participants in various levels of practical skills, including:
One large training center for different levels of skills training
A pre-school to care for the babies of single mothers while they learn
A hostel for mothers who have housing challenges during the training period

Sewing
Cosmetology / Hairdressing
Catering
Soap and detergent making
Currently, we have started with sewing skills training.
Our goal is to empower single mothers to become self-reliant, provide for their children, and contribute meaningfully to the development of society.
We started with with five (5) single mothers drawn from neighboring communities around the Ndoboa Sewing Center. So far, we’ve been able to train more that 20 single mothers.
We propose to train participants for one (1) year. Training will take place five days a week, from morning until 4:00 PM, allowing participants to return home and care for their children.
To ensure successful learning outcomes, we aim to remove all barriers that could hinder participants’ progress:
Daily Meals: Each participant is provided with lunch at the training center so they do not learn on an empty stomach.
Child Support Scheme: We provide monthly stipends or food items to help participants care for their children.
Training Materials: We provide fabrics, haberdashery, sewing materials, and all other necessary supplies needed to complete the one-year program, ensuring participants have no financial barriers to learning.
Through our partnership with Royal International School, scholarships have been secured for the children of our participants.
We are still seeking funding to cover operational costs, including bills, utilities, instructors’ allowances, materials, and general project expenses. We hope to secure sufficient funds to sustain the project and ensure its long-term success.
